Mumbai: The Dadar Railway Police have arrested Rahul Kishan Jagdhane, 12 days after he allegedly committed a lewd act targeting a 23-year-old woman in a moving local train between Kurla and Sion stations. During police interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime.
According to officials, the incident occurred on February 20 at around 10:15 PM when the victim was traveling from Kurla to Sion. The accused, who was in the handicapped coach adjacent to the women’s compartment, made obscene gestures and acted inappropriately. Before the victim could react, he jumped off the moving train and fled. Shocked and scared, the victim reported the incident at Dadar Railway Police Station.
Taking the matter seriously, Commissioner Ravindra Shisve, DCP Manoj Patil, and ACP Sudhakar Shirsat directed Senior Police Inspector Anil Kadam to investigate and ensure a swift arrest.
CCTV Leads to Arrest in Ghatkopar
Under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Anil Kadam, Police Inspector Dharmendra Aware and his team launched an investigation, scanning CCTV footage from multiple railway stations. A suspect matching the description was identified, and further investigation revealed that the accused was a frequent commuter on both Central and Western Railway routes.
A special plainclothes police team was deployed across stations to track him. After 12 days of intense surveillance, female officers spotted him traveling in the handicapped compartment at Ghatkopar station. The on-duty police personnel immediately took him into custody, where he admitted to the crime.
