Actor Ranya Rao's father, Ramachandra Rao, DGP of Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, broke his silence on the matter and tried to keep himself at bay from the controversy.

Ramachandra said that he came to know about the shocking news of his daughter's arrest through the media, which left him devastated.

"I was not aware of any of these things. Like any other father, I was also shocked. She is not living with us; she is living separately with her husband. There must be some problem between them due to some family issues. Anyway, the law will do its job. There is no black mark in my career. I don't want to say anything more," news agency ANI quoted Ramachandra Rao as saying.

Ranya was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Monday night (March 3) for allegedly smuggling gold.

Ranya, known for her roles in films such as Manikya and Pataki, is the stepdaughter of DGP Rao.

On Tuesday evening, Ranya was produced before a special court judge for financial offenses and was sent to 14-day judicial custody.

Rao had reportedly almost cleared the airport security check when the authorities found 14.8 kg of gold, valued at Rs 12.56 crore, in her possession.

Rao allegedly concealed gold bars in her belt and clothing and reportedly used her father's position to evade detection.
