Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Diabetes and thyroid has increased 10 times among pets in last eight yearss. The pet owners can prevent diabetes by providing high-quality diet and regular exercise, according to veterinary doctors.
“Pet parents do not have time for themselves and their pets leading to sedentary lifestyle for their pets. Besides, readymade food which is processed food is given to pets. So be it human or pet, processed food is harmful. This is causing diabetes and thyroid. Pets too need time to regular walk. With increasing medical facilities, these diseases found in pets are becoming known. These diseases have increased almost 10 times in last 8-10 years,” veterinarian Dr Brijesh Gupta of Aasra, the hospital for street animals, told Free Press.
According to veterinary experts, pets move in luxury cars and stay in air conditioned rooms. People prefer to have foreign breed pets so it is hard for them to adjust in Indian weather condition.
Symptoms in pets include excessive drinking, increased urination, weight loss, decreased appetite, cloudy eyes, chronic infections. Similarly, delay in wound healing and dullness, obesity are also symptoms in pets. The pets start gaining weight.
