In a review meeting held at Vidhan Bhavan on Tuesday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis assessed various infrastructure and other development projects worth Rs. 1.41 lakh crores, as well as a proposed Rs. 25,000 crore project undertaken by the Municipal Corporation. He also directed the BMC to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the cleaning of drains, ensuring the work is more efficient and completed on time.
The BMC is executing several key infrastructure projects, including the concretisation of 700 kilometers of roads, the Mumbai Coastal Road Project Phase 2 (Versova-Dahisar-Bhayandar), and the construction of major bridges like Gokhale, Vikhroli, Carnac, Sion, Belasis, Mahalaxmi, and Madh-Worli bridges. Water supply projects include the rejuvenation of Dahisar, Poisar, and Oshiwara rivers, along with Mithi River cleaning. The BMC is also upgrading seven Sewage Treatment Plants and constructing the Versova and Mithi River sewage tunnels. Commercial hubs are being built at Octroi Naka (Dahisar West) and Mankhurd. Additionally, the redevelopment of Sion KEM, Sion, and Nair hospitals, along with new hospital construction, is underway.
The review also covered projects worth approximately Rs. 25,000 crore, on which work is yet to begin, including the Desalination Project, Mithi River Package 5, Panjarapol Water Purification Project, Mankhurd Transport Hub, expansion of Byculla Zoo, Mulund Bird Sanctuary, Deonar Bioremediation, Deonar Abattoir Modernisation, and the Gargai Water Supply Project. Fadnavis directed to construct a 1200-vehicle capacity parking lot should be constructed at Haji Ali along the Coastal road. "The ongoing projects should be expedited and completed on time. Also, the tendering process for the proposed projects be completed within a month," said Fadnavis.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasised that the ongoing work should be completed swiftly, ensuring that citizens will not face inconvenience during the monsoon season. The meeting was attended by BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department Aseem Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department Rajesh Kumar and other officials.
