Mira-Bhayandar: The central crime unit (CCU) attached to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police have arrested two peddlers who were found to be in possession worth Rs 5 lakh on Friday night.
During routine patrolling, the CCU personnel led by API-Prashant Gangurde spotted a man who was moving around in a suspicious manner near Jai Ambe petrol pump on the highway in Naigaon at around 8 pm.
Upon frisking, the suspect identified as-Naveen Niraj Jha (45) was found to be in possession of 933 grams charas (an addictive concentrate derived from live cannabi plants). The value of the seized contraband is pegged at Rs 5 lakh. Investigations led to the arrest of Jha’s accomplice-Mukeshkumar Shankar Saha (28) from Titwala.
An offence under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 was registered at the Naigaon police station against the duo who had been arrested earlier by the Mumbai police for similar drug peddling activities.
Not ruling out the possibility of the duo being members of an organized drug syndicate, officials from the Naigaon police station are conducting further investigations.
