Art has the power to transport us to places of serenity, nostalgia, and wonder. For artist P. S. Talokar and her partner, the canvas becomes a gateway to the peaceful shores where boats rest under golden sunsets, where the sky kisses the water, and where time slows to the rhythm of the tides. Their breathtaking collection, currently on display, invites viewers into a world of tranquility and reflection, making waves in the art community with its evocative beauty.

A love story told in colors and waves

The union of P. S. Talokar and their partner is not just one of love but also of creative synergy. Together, they breathe life into paintings that evoke the gentle embrace of the sea and the untold stories of boats docked at quiet shores. Their canvases are infused with a dreamlike quality, where colors blend effortlessly to mimic the dance of light on water.

Before turning their art into a series of displays for exhibition, Talokar and her partner were into animation and digital art. When Covid arrived, they decided to take a leap of faith and begin painting on canvases and displaying their art to the world. While P S Talokar is also a pot make, she mentioned how her clay designs inspired her to paint some of the paintings that are on display. On the other hand, Talokar's partner studied from J.J. School of Arts and has always been passionate about creating art that is visually appealing yet calming. He mentioned how he has travelled numerous ports and cities to take inspiration for his paintings.

While each artist has a distinct approach, their works share a harmonious narrative-of journeys taken, of waiting, of the vastness of the ocean meeting the intimacy of human presence. Through layered textures and fluid brushstrokes, their paintings do not merely depict boats; they capture emotions, inviting the observer to step into a moment suspended in time.

The magic of boats at shore

P S Talokar's paintings use this imagery to reflect human emotions-hope, longing, and contentment. Their paintings often feature vibrant blues, warm ochres, and soft pastels that mimic the shifting hues of dawn and dusk. Each piece tells a silent story, whispering secrets of the sea and the journeys yet to come.

Bringing peace into homes

A painting of a boat resting by the shore reminds us of the importance of stillness, of moments spent in quiet reflection. It encourages us to pause, to breathe, and to embrace the beauty of the present. Their collection also feature a few a paintings of horses and elephants that are soothing to the eyes. Looking at those paintings for a long time induces a sense of calmness in your mind and makes you feel relaxed. That's how powerful art makes you feel.

P S Talokar's exhibition is open for visitors from March 1 to March 13, 2025 at the Gallery FPH, Free Press House, Nariman Point.
