Pune has long struggled with traffic congestion, with both the city and Pimpri-Chinchwad regions experiencing ongoing bottlenecks. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a comprehensive action plan to address this escalating issue, with the goal of reducing traffic at 25 important intersections throughout the area.
The construction of missing link roads, which will offer alternate routes and lessen reliance on already congested highways, is part of the proposal. Currently, more than 11.36 km of these missing link roads are being developed, with a concentration on high-priority locations including Bhatnagar, Pimpri-Kalewadi Road, Adarsh Nagar (Kiwale), and Kaspate Chowk.
In addition, the implementation of 34 new development plan (DP) roads spanning 48.94 km is underway, at an estimated cost of ₹809.78 crore. These roads are being built to improve traffic flow in newly developing areas of the city.
To address delays caused by signal stoppages, major roads at Mukai Chowk, Triveni Nagar, and Krishna Nagar are being redesigned and expanded. To further reduce traffic, a new roundabout is being proposed for M M Chowk in Kalewadi.

Signal-free corridor
The construction of a signal-free corridor along Spine Road from Godown Chowk to Bhakti Shakti Junction is another important project. The goal of this project is to guarantee continuous traffic flow and lessen local bottlenecks.
The PCMC is also combining these traffic enhancements with sustainable transportation strategies as part of its long-term plan. The mobility strategy will be further enhanced by the Harit Setu initiative, which aims to improve the infrastructure for public transportation as well as amenities for bicyclists and pedestrians.
These initiatives are a component of a larger plan to enhance Pimpri-Chinchwad's general traffic flow, providing commuters and locals with a more efficient and comfortable travel experience.
