Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): About 4 lakh people who are above 30 years of age are suffering from hyper tension and diabetes and about 1.5 lakh people have developed non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
This has been revealed during first 10 days of ongoing randomly done medical examination of people under Nirogi Kaya Abhiyan launched by National Health Mission (NHM) in Madhya Pradesh.
Launched on February 20, the screening or the medical check-up may continue after March 31, its official deadline. About 16.15 lakh people who are above 30 years of age have been medically examined under Nirogi Kaya Abhiyan.
Dr Ashish Saxena, NHM deputy director, said, “25% of 30 plus population has come on radar during screening. They have been asked to go for further diagnosis. These people will consult medical experts for confirmation and further diagnosis.”
Similarly, screening has been done for over 6 lakh people for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease caused majorly due to consumption of fast food and lifestyle changes. Body mass index (BMI) uses weight and height to estimate body fat.
A high BMI and large waist size may signal an increased risk of heart disease, Dr Saxena added. “We will access the trend and data, which have been uploaded on central government portal. Still 8-10 days to go for it. Health check- up (screening) is underway across the state under Nirogi Kaya Abhiyan,” NHM director Saloni Sadana said.
