A recent viral reel has sparked a lively debate online after a content creator asked Mumbaikars to guess the official language of Bengaluru, believing locals in the IT city would have been appropriate to answer this instead. The video, which humorously highlighted the lack of awareness among youngsters, captured their reactions when asked about the official language of Bengaluru.

While Bengaluru doesn't separately have an official language, it uses Kannada, being part of the Karnataka state. Mumbaikars weren't really aware of the answer and they kept guessing during the vox pop. The responses ranged from Hindi to Malayalam with only a few saying "Kannada" confidently.

Asking Mumbaikars about Bengaluru

The content creator asked "Which is the official language of Bangalore?" while walking on the streets of Mumbai.

The video opened with his question and was followed by documenting the reactions of Mumbaikars. While some said the city has no official language, others suggested it was Kannada. The guesses extended to Hindi, Sanskrit, Tamil and Malayalam as well.

"Hindi or Sanskrit. I am putting my bets on both", a woman answered on the mic. "Namma Bengaluru Tamil", another said while hilariously giving birth to a whole different language combining the city's 'Namma Bengaluru' phrase and Tamil Nadu's official language, Tamizh.

Internet reacts

As the video circulated online and went viral, it gathered a wide range of responses. Notably, the internet questioned why the content creator asked Mumbaikars a question related to Bengaluru.

"You are in Mumbai. Why ask this here?", one X user asked.

"I bet 80% of them don't even know Where's BENGALURU! These GenZ kids lack Generel knowledge", commented the second user.

"If you ask which is official language of Mumbai here in blore, most will say hindi . Not everyone is aware it’s Marathi. So it’s ok", another wrote.
