Pollution in India is an issue that has raised concerns and thereby started discussions, as more and more cities and towns are being devoured by the wave of high AQI.

A Solution To Pollution?

In this, no city is perhaps more notorious and therefore battered by air pollution than India's very own capital, Delhi, where pollution sadly has become an annual event that citizens of the metropolis have to endure.

In a move, purportedly to bring down pollution levels in the city, the new government of the territory has announced a new measure.

Move Will Not Help Citizens

As per this new announcement from Delhi's Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, vehicles older than 15 years will not to be provided fuel at petrol pumps in Delhi after March 31.

Reactions have now poured in, and senior business journalist, known for uncovering the 1992 Indian stock market scam, Sucheta Dalal was one of them.

Dalal has reacted to this upcoming diktat. In his post on X, Dalal said, "This is ONLY to benefit car manufacturers.".

Furthermore, she added, "If the govt cannot provide adequate, graded, public transport, it has NO business threatening citizens."

Dalal even openly hinted at throwing a legal challenge against this move from the Delhi government. "This ought to be taken to court. Anyone up for it??", Dalal added.

She shared another post, in which the user asked the question, "Age does not pollute. Poorly maintained engines do. Enforce annual pollution checks. Aircraft fly up to 30 years or more with good maintenance. Why can't cars be older than 15 years if well-maintained?"

As of March 2023, Delhi has around 79 lakh vehicles. The city is said to have around 20 lakh private vehicles.

Pollution in Delhi has reached alarming levels in the recent past. Just a few months ago in December, the city's and neighbouring areas saw their AQI marching into uncharted territories of severity. Delhi continues to be one of the most polluted capital cities around the globe.
