The PL Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy Complex and Ravindra Natya Mandir reopened in Prabhadevi after renovations. This historic event also featured the debut of PL Deshpande’s Marathi works in Bengali, showcasing Pu La’s dedication to artistic excellence.P. L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy was established by the Government of Maharashtra to honor the legacy of the late Shri P. L. Deshpande, recognizing his significant contributions to Marathi literature, theater, and music. The Academy was inaugurated on November 17, 2002, and spans a total area of 1,53,68.89 sq.mt.The facilities feature the Ravindra Natya Mandir Auditorium (911 seats), Mini Theatre (199 seats), Art Gallery, two Exhibition Halls, rehearsal halls, and a licensed 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound system.The venue now boasts 15 cutting-edge rehearsal studios, a high-tech Chroma studio for digital productions, and an advanced Dolby studio for audio and music production. The green rooms have also been modernised, ensuring a world-class experience for performers.
The Academy's primary goal is to preserve Maharashtra's cultural heritage and promote performing arts, including music, dance, drama, and visual arts, fostering growth, recognizing artists, and documenting diverse artistic practices.With new open-air amphitheatres, exhibition halls, art galleries, a mini-theatre equipped with Dolby Atmos, and a dedicated selfie point, the space is designed to be an immersive experience for visitors.Ravindra Natya Mandir reopens with PuLa Mahotsav on March 3 celebrating the playwright's works, followed by Women's Art Festival on March 4.
