Actor Adrien Brody won the Best Actor award at the 97th edition of the Academy Awards on Monday for his film, The Brutalist, and as he rushed towards the stage to receive the award, he was seen tossing his half-chewed gum at his girlfriend Georgina Chapman, who even went ahead and caught it!
Gross, right? Well, netizens felt the same after a video of the moment went viral online, and many opined that the actor could have just kept it in his own pocket or in his mouth itself while delivering his acceptance speech.

In the video, Brody can be seen realising midway during his walk up to the stage that he had the gum in his mouth, so he spat it out in his palm, turned around and threw it at Georgina, who seemed almost ready for the moment. She quickly stepped forward and in one swift movement, caught the flying gum, all with a broad smile on her face.
"You’ve just won the Oscar; why not put that gum in the pocket of the tux? (sic)," a user wrote on X, while another commented, "The girl was disrespected all night (sic)." A netizen exclaimed, "Eww. He should have just put it in his pocket...and she goes to catch it? Pffffft (sic)." "Gross!", "This is disgusting", "What a pig!", read some more comments.

This was Brody's second Best Actor award at the Oscars, the first time being for his role in The Pianist in 2003, when he was just 29 years old. With the win for The Brutalist, he joined the A-list group of actors who have won the Best Actor award twice, including Spencer Tracy, Jack Nicholson, and Tom Hanks, and he also became one of the youngest actors to achieve this feat.
