Whenever a big award function takes place, there's always a debate about the winners. Today, Oscars 2025 took place at Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, and Sean Baker's Anora won five awards including Best Film and Best Actress. While of course fans of the movie and Mikey Madison are very happy about the wins, some netizens feel that the movie didn't deserve the awards.

A netizen wrote, "ANORA: Sweeps with 5 WINS! • Best Picture • Best Director (Sean Baker) • Best Actress (Mikey Madison) • Best Original Screenplay • Best Editing The bar has never been this low! #Oscars." Another X user posted, "Am i the only one who think #Anora is a good film, but winning best picture of the year at the #Oscars2025 is kind of overkill. Also I thought #DemiMoore or #FernandaTorres would get the leading actress. This year is already weird enough."

A netizen compared the movie to another nominees and wrote, "#Anora won 5 #Oscars2025. I couldn’t bear it for even 15 minutes. How did it win 5 awards in one night? #Dune2, #Conclave, #Gladiator2, #TheSubstance,& #Nosferatu are better films with more worthy stories, direction, cinematography, and more. Is this a new low for #Oscars?

This is not the first time when winners at the Oscars are being questioned by netizens. It happens mostly every year. So, we are not surprised.

Talking about Oscars 2025, Anora received five awards, followed by The Brutalist with three awards, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score. Meanwhile, Emilia Pérez and Dune 2 won two awards respectively. The former won Best Original Song and Best Supporting awards, and the latter won Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.

Indian film Anuja was nominated in the Best Live Action Short Film category, but it lost to I'm Not a Robot.
