Shama Mohammed has defended her statement made on Rohit Sharma's captaincy and Bodyshaming in her tweet which is now being deleted by the Congress leader.
Shama took to social media and wrote: "Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And of course the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had!"
Defending her comments, Mohammed denied body-shaming Rohit Sharma and said that she felt he was a bit overweight. Speaking to ANI she said, "It was a generic tweet about the fitness of a sportsperson. It was not body-shaming. I always believed a sportsperson should be fit, and I felt he was a bit overweight, so I just tweeted about that. I have been attacked for no reason. When I compared him with previous captains, I put in a statement. I have the right. What is wrong in saying? It is a democracy..."

Shama Mohammed faces backlash over Rohit Sharma's comments
Besides calling Rohit Sharma fat, Mohamed also raised questions on captaincy, calling it ‘unimpressive’. Her tweet sparked war of words on social media with noted journalist Rajdeep Sardesai and BJP coming in defence of Team India skipper.
Sardesai while countering criticism by claimed that Rohit has won multiple IPL titles as a captain and leads the best white-ball team in the world. Mohamed countered Sardesai's statement by stating that Rohit’s decision to open in the MCG Test against Australia in December “backfired totally” and India also lost the 2023 World Cup final under his leadership.
On the other hand BJP spokesperson Radhika Khera pointed out that the Congress indulging in body-shaming while taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi's inability to handle the party.
Taking to X sh wrote, “Congress spokesperson body-shaming @ImRo45 - The sheer audacity! This is the same Congress that humiliated athletes for decades, denied them recognition, and now dares to mock a cricketing legend? The party that thrives on nepotism is lecturing a self-made champion?”.

She further added, “Rohit Sharma is a World Cup-winning captain. Your leader, @RahulGandhi can’t even captain his own party without crashing it into the ground!”
“Mr. @Jairam_Ramesh instead of your team spewing cheap insults at a man who has brought glory to India, you & ur spokespersons should focus on the real ‘weight’ your party is shedding—relevance, credibility, and elections!
