Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Sports activities and community events were organised on Sunday morning to mark the transformation of Adarsh backlane in Srinagar Extension.
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav and municipal commissioner Shivam Verma participated in all activities, like cycling, carom, badminton and other sports in the newly beautified backlane.
A large number of citizens participated in an interactive breakfast session in which the officials talked to them about cleanliness and development issues. The citizens hailed the remarkable changes in the backlane, once a site of neglect but now revitalised into a clean, vibrant space.
Bhargav praised the transformation and claimed that now the backlane was more beautiful and developed than many front areas of the city.
“Indore’s backlanes are a testament to the power of public participation. Out of over 4800 back lanes across the city, we have developed and beautified over 1200. The results are clear: the back lane is more appealing than the front in many cases and this is a reflection of the collective effort of Indore Municipal Corporation and the aware citizens,” he said.
The Mayor further emphasised the importance of citizens’ involvement in maintaining cleanliness, stressing that Indore’s position as the cleanest city in India for seven consecutive years was a result of such efforts.
With the Swachhta Sarvekshan on the horizon, the Mayor urged the residents to continue their support and cooperation on the cleanliness front so that the city could emerge as the cleanest city for the eighth time in a row. Verma encouraged citizens to ensure that the back lanes, gardens and surrounding areas remained pristine for future generations.
