Dewas (Madhya Pradesh): A former MLA's son attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance after ongoing marital disputes. Pramod Verma, son of ex-MLA Surendra Verma was initially rushed to a private hospital in Dewas before being transferred to Indore for advanced treatment.

In his suicide note, Pramod expressed extreme disillusionment with marriage writing, ‘Never marry, it is not necessary.’ The note detailed harassment allegedly inflicted by his wife and in-laws since their marriage over 15 years ago.

Former MLA Surendra Verma told media persons that his son runs a building material shop and had been experiencing daily conflicts with his wife. He revealed that Pramod's wife had previously filed a complaint against the family at Indore's women's police station, leading to court proceedings that were later settled through community intervention.

According to the father, recent tensions centred around pressure from Pramod's wife and in-laws to relocate to Indore. Despite moving to a separate house in Mridul Vihar approximately five years ago to ease tension, disputes continued, including one the night before suicide attempt.

In his note, Pramod apologised to his mother, expressing regret for failing as a son, brother and father. The distressed note concluded with controversial statements about female education alongside his final recommendation against marriage.
