Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bodies of father-daughter duo, both homeopathic doctors, were found at their residence in Panchwati under Govindpura police station limits on Sunday morning. The body of 82-year-old Harikishan Sharma was found hanging in one of the rooms while that of his daughter Chitra Sharma (36) was found on the bed in another room of the house.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the aged man poisoned his daughter and then hanged himself. A suicide note was found on the spot in which the aged doctor said he was suffering from multiple diseases and was upset over his daughter’s mental disorder.
Additional DCP Mahaveer Mujalde said a patient reached the house of Harikishan Sharma in the morning. He became suspicious when no one responded despite repeated knocks and called the neighbours. Sharma’s elder daughter who lives in Bag Mugalia reached the spot and called police.
A police team broke open the door and found the body of Harikishan Sharma hanging from the ceiling in one of the rooms while Chitra’s body was lying on the bed in another room. There were no signs of forced entry and everything in the house was found intact.
A team from forensic science laboratory carried out investigation at the spot and found a suicide note. Sharma’s elder daughter told police that her only brother died long back while their mother expired four years ago. Following their deaths, her father and Chitra were suffering from depression.
The suicide note
In the suicide note, Harikisha Sharma said that that he was a lively and energetic man. However, he did not want to be a burden on anyone. “I am in an advanced age now. I also do not want that my daughter should be a burden on anyone.
In such circumstances, ending my life is the only option left. I have completed the process of donating my body to AIIMS for study of medical students,” Sharma stated in suicide note. Sharma also mentioned that his daughter was suffering from mental disorder and was not ready for marriage.
Post-mortem
Additional DCP Mahaveer Singh Mujalde said based on circumstances it could be presumed that the doctor poisoned her daughter and then hanged himself. However, the exact reasons behind the daughter’s death will be known only after receiving post-mortem report, he added.
