Alot (Madhya Pradesh): A woman from Alot has registered a complaint against her husband and in-laws from Indore, accusing them of dowry harassment and domestic abuse.

Shruti Jain of Jagdevganj in Alot has filed charges under Sections 3 and 4 of Dowry Act 1961 and Section 85 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 2023 against her husband Himanshu Burad, father-in-law Umesh Burad, brother-in-law Lavesh Burad (a well-known Jain bhajan singer) and sister-in-law Lipika Burad.

According to Shruti's statement, she married Himanshu on February 9, 2016, in Indore. Her father provided Rs 10.5 lakh cash, 250 gram of gold and household items as dowry.

Despite being proficient in English and running a coaching centre, Shruti claims she faced constant mistreatment within months of marriage.

She alleges that her husband regularly insulted her appearance, assaulted her physically and misappropriated her coaching income while pressuring her for additional funds to purchase property.

Despite her father purchasing a plot in her name in Rau, Indore, harassment continued with demands for money to build a house. The situation escalated on February 11, when Shruti claimed she was beaten and evicted from her home with an ultimatum to bring Rs 50 lakh.

Assistant Sub-Inspector KL Kherwa confirmed that police have issued notices to accused family members to appear in court. Authorities accompanied Shruti to retrieve her personal belongings from Indore residence.
