The VP Road police have arrested two men for stealing Rs1.85 crore from a real estate broker and courier office in Bhoiwada, Girgaon. So far, police have recovered Rs1.55 crore and are searching for a third suspect.
The arrested accused, Vijay Rajput, 19, (complainant’s employee), and Dhanaji Rajput, 20, are from Banaskantha district, Gujarat. Their associate, Hitesh Rajput, 20, is absconding. Complainant Hitesh Khatri, who runs a courier and real estate business from his Bhoiwada office, had stored Rs1.85 crore in a cupboard on February 21. The next morning, his employee Naresh Rajput discovered the cash missing. On February 23, Dhanaji Rajput was intercepted at Mumbai Central railway station with a bag containing Rs1.5 crore.
Police learned that Dhanaji and Vijay Rajput planned to flee to Gujarat. While Dhanaji was caught, his associate escaped. Further investigation revealed that Rs55 lakh was hidden at the accused’s house, where he had told his father it belonged to his employer. Based on Dhanaji’s statements, police recovered the money from Gujarat.
Later, Dhanaji’s interrogation led to Vijay Rajput’s arrest for providing inside information and aiding the theft. Both remain in custody as the search for Hitesh Rajput continues. Police are working to recover the remaining stolen amount.
