Sudha Dwivedi, a Ticket Traveling Inspector (TTI) from Central Railway’s Mumbai Division, has set a new milestone in ticket checking. On February 28, 2025, she detected 202 cases of ticketless or irregular travel, collecting fines amounting to Rs 55,210—the highest ever recorded in a single day for suburban ticket-checking.
This achievement surpasses the previous record of 150 cases and Rs 45,705 in fines, set just days earlier by Rubina Aqib Inamdar on February 24, 2025. Before that, Dwivedi herself held the record with 129 cases and Rs 35,550 in fines.
A railway official praised her dedication, stating, “Sudha Dwivedi’s exceptional service is a testament to her diligence. She joined Indian Railways on May 22, 1993, initially working in the electrical department before becoming an announcer. In 2006, she transitioned to ticket checking, and by 2013, she became part of the ticket-checking task force, consistently setting new benchmarks.”
Senior railway officials have commended Dwivedi for her role in maintaining discipline and fairness in Mumbai’s suburban railway network. Her latest record highlights the significance of strict ticket-checking drives in ensuring a hassle-free commute for millions.
For her relentless efforts, Dwivedi has been honored with the Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Award and the Railway Minister’s Award for exceptional service recently
Central Railway operates 1,810 local train services daily, carrying nearly 3.9 million passengers, including 66 air-conditioned services catering to around 76,836 passengers. However, ticketless travel remains a persistent challenge, with some commuters traveling without tickets or misusing lower-class tickets for AC coaches.
To address this issue, Central Railway regularly conducts ticket-checking drives. Between April 2024 and January 2025, officials detected 81,709 ticketless passengers and collected fines totaling Rs 2.70 crore.
