Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has started special buses for students appearing for class X board exams students to facilitate hassle-free travel. These buses will help students commute to and from their examination centres without inconvenience.

The initiative started by NMMT Manager Yogesh Kaduskar under the guidance of Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Kailash Shinde, is expected to reduce the congestion caused by private vehicles and auto rickshaws near the exam centres. The exam time is during the peak hours of the office time as well due to which there are chances of traffic jams that would slow the traffic. As a solution to this problem, NMMT came up with the solution of ‘special student buses’ that would reach the exam centre an hour before the exam starts.

“The buses are expected to reach by 10 am to the centres as the exam starts at 11 am and during return, the buses are expected to reach by 2pm for pick up. Though these are special buses, they run through the usual routes with a little diversion to pass from the nearest bus stop of the exam centres,” an officer from NMMT Said.

The special bus routes cover key locations in Navi Mumbai, operating between Airoli and Vashi railway station, Ghansoli and Sanpada railway station and CBD bus station and Vashi Sector-7 bus depot. “Last year too we had this service but the response was low but this year we expect greater crowd,” the officer added. The service was started from March 1 and would be there till the board exams don’t get over.

Authorities have urged students to make use of this dedicated service. The initiative aims to ensure smooth transportation during the examination period, reducing travel stress for students.
