NEET UG 2025: The National Medical Commission (NMC) replied to an RTI query in response to whether or not students of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) were eligible to appear for NEET UG 2025. In its clarification, the commission ensured that students enrolled with NIOS are eligible to appear in the NEET UG exam.

Additionally, the NMC explained that it is permissible for students to study an additional subject via NIOS, provided it is taken in authorised institutions.

Responding to a February 11, 2025, RTI application, the NMC clarified the eligibility of NIOS students for the NEET UG 2025 in the wake of interpretations relating to the NEET-UG Bulletin 2025. Under the GMER 2023 rules, the commission stated that such students from NIOS, state-open schools or private candidates are also eligible.

NEET UG Registrations 2025 Updates

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has started the registration process for NEET UG 2025 on February 7. The deadline to apply will be March 7, 2025. Interested candidates can apply online for the NEET UG 2025 at neet.nta.nic.in.

NEET UG, the only entrance test for undergraduate medical and allied courses in India, will be conducted on May 4 in pen-and-paper mode. NEET UG 2025 will be conducted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Candidates need to choose their desired medium of the question paper while submitting the NEET UG application form, as this option cannot be altered later.

There are a total of 1,08,000 MBBS seats out of which 56,000 seats are found in government medical colleges and around 52,000 seats can be found in private colleges.

The NEET UG 2025 merit list and scores will also be applied for admissions in BDS, BVSc, and AH courses and for undergraduate studies in BAMS, BUMS, and BSMS of the Indian System of Medicine in medical institutions. Admission to the BHMS course, which is regulated by the National Commission for Homeopathy, will also be done on the basis of NEET UG scores.
