Tonk: A pregnant woman appearing for the REET (Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers) 2024 exam in Rajasthan’s Tonk district gave birth to a baby girl shortly after going into labour during the test. The candidate, Priyanka Chaudhary, a resident of the Bagdi village, began experiencing labour pain soon after the exam started at Government Higher Secondary School on February 27.

The examination superintendent alerted the district administration, and Priyanka was rushed to Saadat Hospital, where she delivered her baby safely.

Priyanka's husband, Jeetram Chaudhary, expressed both surprise and joy over the unexpected turn of events. "We had come for the exam, but we had no idea that our daughter would be born here. It is a matter of good fortune for us that Lakshmi came to our house during the examination," he shared, referring to the goddess of prosperity in Indian culture, as per an ETV Bharat report.

However, Jeetram also mentioned that Priyanka felt slightly disappointed about not being able to complete her paper due to the sudden labour pain.

According to the hospital administration, both the newborn and the mother are in good health and are currently recovering in the hospital’s maternity ward.

The REET 2025 examination, for which Priyanka had appeared, saw an enormous participation, with more than 14 lakh candidates registering across the state. The test was conducted on February 27 and 28 at 1,731 designated centres spread across Rajasthan. REET is held in two categories — Level 1, qualifying candidates to teach classes 1 to 5, and Level 2, for those aiming to teach classes 6 to 8.
