Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Lesser Adjutant, a rare winged guest, was sighted in the hillocks of Kalda surrounded by dark woods. The south Panna forest region encompassed by craggy Kalda hillocks is known for natural biodiversity.

As soon as a tourist enters the area, the sweet songs of birds welcome him.

An environmentalist, Ajay Chousaria, who has been working for protection of forests for two decades, took the photograph of the Lesser Adjutant.

The divisional forest officer said Lesser Adjutant is available in the eastern parts of the country, but its sighting in Kalda hillocks is a piece of good news. In fact, many rare birds, animals and plants nestle in the womb of the hillocks of Kalda. In the morning and in the evening, the area reverberates with the twittering of birds.

As far as Lesser Adjutant is concerned, it loves to live in marshy lands and belongs to the family of cranes, he said, adding that it is an endangered species. The insect-eating plant Drosera was found in this area last year.
