A major leak has been detected in the 300mm diameter bypass connection of the 1800mm diameter water pipeline at Milind Nagar at Powai, causing a complete disruption in the water supply to the Ghatkopar high-level reservoir. Though the BMC has undertaken the repair work on war footing it will take 15 hours to complete. As a result, water supply to certain areas of the N - Ghatkopar and L - Kurla area has been suspended from 5 PM on Friday. Civic officials have confirmed that the water supply will be restored once the repairs are completed by Saturday. 

The leak was detected on the 1800 mm pipeline in Powai on Friday afternoon. The civic team from the Hydraulic Engineering department needed to locate the exact leak on the pipeline to carry out repairs. As a result, the BMC stopped the water supply to certain parts of Kurla and Ghatkopar in the evening, affecting areas that typically receive water at that time. Mosami Desai, a resident of Ghatkopar, said, "We were suddenly informed that there would be no water supply, which will obviously disrupt our daily activities. We can bring bottled water for drinking, but what about other household chores? We hope the repair work is completed soon."  

An official from BMC's Hydraulic Engineering department said, "Currently, the water supply to the Ghatkopar reservoir has been suspended. The repair work is expected to be completed by Saturday morning. So, the water supply will be affected till 8 am." The areas affected by the water supply disruption in Ghatkopar include BMC colonies, Gavdevi Pathan Chawl, Amrut Nagar, Indira Nagar 2, Golibar Marg, Siddharth Nagar, Sainath Nagar, Patidar wadi, Bhat wadi, Barve Nagar, Kazutekdi, New Dhyasagar, and Ramji Nagar, among others. While in Kurla the areas affected were D'Souza Compound, Ayyappa Mandir Marg, Mohili Water Pipeline, Loyalka Compound, Parerawadi, Indra Market, Bhanu Shali Wadi, Asalfa Gaon, N.S.S. Marg among others.
