At least three people died and 20 were injured in a suicide blast, reported Pakistani English daily Dawn.
Immediately after the incident, rescue teams rushed to the spot and a police probe was launched into the incident. The injured are being taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to reports, the blast took place as people arrived for Friday prayers in the main hall of the Darul Uloom Haqqania Madrasa.
Local authorities immediately declared an emergency in all hospitals and health facilities across Peshawar.
The suicide blast comes at a time when Pakistan is hosting the ICC Champions Trophy. Due to security reasons, India refused to play in Pakistan and its matches in the tournament have been moved to Dubai.
The recent incident casts a shadow on the tournament, in which eight teams are participating, over security concerns.
