A 30-year-old youth, who was struggling financially after losing approximately Rs 15 lakh in the stock market, poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire. He sustained 90 percent burns and tragically passed away while undergoing treatment at the District Government Hospital (Nashik Civil Hospital).
The deceased, identified as Ravindra Shivaji Kolhe (30), was a native of Vitai in Chandwad taluka and was residing in the Khutwadnagar area. Initially employed in a private insurance company and later in a private bank, he had invested money in the stock market without informing his parents. However, due to the recent downturn in the stock market, he suffered a significant financial loss of around Rs 15 lakh.
Police Informed that, burdened by financial difficulties and the pressure of repaying the amount, Kolhe was reportedly distressed. Despite financial help from his friends, he struggled to cope with the situation. Feeling remorseful for not informing his parents about the investment, he went to an open ground near Jyoti Vidyalaya in Pimpalgaon Bahula on Wednesday afternoon. There, he sat on his two-wheeler (MH 15 GE 7785), poured petrol on himself, and set himself on fire.
He sustained severe burns and was immediately rushed to Nashik District Government Hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police Inspector Vishwas Patil is conducting further investigations into the incident.
