Crazxy Review: In 2018, a horror film titled Tumbbad was released. It starred Sohum Shah in the lead role, and he had also produced the movie. The film received positive reviews, and at the box office, it did reasonably well. However, when last year, it was re-released, the movie got an exceptional response. So, when Shah announced his next production venture titled Crazxy starring himself in the lead role, we were quite excited about the film. So, is this movie worth your time and money? Read our review to know that…

Crazxy is about Dr. Abhimanyu (Sohum Shah) who on 1st April leaves his house and is going for a meeting with Rs. 5 crore. On the way, he gets a call that claims that his daughter Vedica has been kidnapped and the ransom amount that he needs to pay is Rs. 5 crore. He feels that it is a prank or a plan of his ex-wife to get money out of him. But, soon he comes to know that his daughter is actually kidnapped and he just has a few minutes to save her. Will Abhimanyu be able to save his daughter? Who has kidnapped his daughter? To know all these answers you need to watch the film.

The movie is written and directed by Girish Kohli who has earlier written movies like Mom and Kesari, and with Crazxy he makes his directorial debut. The story of a father trying to save his kidnapped daughter might sound very basic and something that we have seen in many films earlier. But, the narration style here, makes this movie stand out.

Crazxy has just one character (one actor) on the screens for its whole runtime (93 minutes), apart from a small glimpse of a character in video call and a cameo appearance in the climax. Yes, throughout the film, there’s only Abhimanyu on the screens; other cast is just there in the form of voices and pictures. This is something unique, and despite just having one character on the big screens, the film doesn’t bore you. The voices and the pictures of the actors have been used wonderfully, making them a perfect integral part of the narrative. While watching the film, it will take you a bit long to understand that ‘Oh there’s only one character on the screens throughout’, and for that Kohli gets full marks.

Also, there’s around 10-15 minutes of a sequence in the second half that will keep you on the edge of the seat. A lot of things are happening in that particular sequence, and it will surely make you go crazy. It will also make you uncomfortable for multiple reasons. A WARNING FOR FAINT HEARTED PEOPLE!

While in the South film industry the concept of having just one character on the big screens throughout the film has been explored multiple times, in Bollywood it happened in 1964. Sunil Dutt had directed and starred in a movie titled Yaadein which just had himself on the screens throughout and there were just voices of the other actors. The movie had won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.

Crazxy surely impresses us with the way it has been narrated. But, it does have some negative points as well. The pace of the film is quite steady and apart from the 10-15 minutes sequence in the second half, there are no other scenes that will give you an adrenaline rush. While watching such movies we also expect some interesting twists and turns, but that is missing here.

Crazxy Review – Actors’ Performances

When it comes to performances, Sohum Shah has once again proved that he is one of the best actors we have in the industry, and he surely throws hat for Best Actor awards. Tinnu Anand, Shilpa Shukla, Piyush Mishra, and Nimisha Sajayan’s voices have done wonders for the film. It proves that a good actor can leave a strong mark with just his or her voice.

Crazxy Review – Music

The songs in the film are decent, and the recreated version of Goli Maar Bheje Mein doesn’t impress us much. But, the background score given by Jesper Kyd is amazing.

Crazxy Review – Final Verdict

Overall, Sohum Shah and Girish Kohli have surely tried to give the audiences something unique, and they mostly succeed in it. But, with a better pace and some more twists and turns, this movie would have actually been CRAZY! Well, you can surely watch it once but don’t go to theatres with the Tumbbad kind of a movie expectation.
