Mumbai: A fire broke out on the 42nd floor of the Salsette 27 Building, a 57-storey residential tower located near New Grade Insta Mill on B A Road in Byculla East, Mumbai, on Wednesday morning.

The fire was reported to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) at around 10:45 am, with the firefighting teams reaching the site shortly after and declaring it a Level-I emergency. Firefighting operations are currently underway. Visuals of the fire have surfaced on the internet showing smoke billowing from the floor affected by the blaze.

No Injuries Reported So Far

According to MFB officials, the fire is confined to the 42nd floor of the high-rise building. No injuries have been reported so far. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and officials are focusing on containing the blaze to prevent further damage.

To manage the situation, the MFB has deployed a huge number of resources, including five fire engines, three jumbo tankers, an advanced water tender, a breathing apparatus van, a hydraulic platform and a high-rise fire-fighting vehicle. Additionally, two ambulances are on standby at the site as a precautionary measure.

The building was swiftly evacuated immediately and emergency personnel are ensuring that no one is trapped on the affected floor. Firefighters are making use of advanced equipment and techniques to navigate the high-rise structure and control the flames.

Local authorities have cordoned off the area to facilitate emergency operations and ensure public safety. Bystanders and residents from nearby buildings have been advised to stay away from the site until the situation is fully under control.

The MFB is expected to conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire once the situation is stabilised. Updates on the firefighting progress and any developments regarding injuries or property damage will be provided by the MFB as the situation unfolds.
