Mumbai: A 21-year-old youth, Aftab Wajir Sheikh, was brutally attacked with a sickle by his friend Shahid Riaz Ansari after refusing to join him for a drinking session at a bar. The incident occurred around 9 pm on Tuesday near a paan shop in front of A.A. Enterprises, close to Bhagat Sheikh Mistri Dargah in Mumbai’s Antop Hill area.

Aftab, a college student from Jai Maharashtra Nagar, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Sion Hospital for treatment. He was later discharged. The accused, Shahid, a resident of Vikrant Society in the same locality, has a history of criminal activities, reported Lokmat Times. The police arrested him within hours of the incident and he has been remanded to police custody.

Details On The Attack Incident

According to the report quoting Antop Hill Police, the attack unfolded when Shahid invited Aftab to the ‘Omi Punjab’ bar for drinks. Aftab’s refusal enraged Shahid, leading him to attack Aftab with a sickle. Shahid aimed for Aftab’s head, but Aftab defended himself with his hands, resulting in severe injuries to his hands and legs. The sudden and violent nature of the attack left Aftab seriously wounded and the assailant fled the scene immediately after.

Local residents who witnessed the attack quickly took Aftab to Sion Hospital, where he received prompt medical care. Meanwhile, the police registered an attempt-to-murder case against Shahid Ansari based on Aftab’s complaint. The police acted swiftly, tracking down Shahid and arresting him.

Accused Is A History-sheeter, Confirms Probe

Further investigations revealed that Shahid Ansari is a history-sheeter with three previous cases registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Agripada Police Station. His criminal background and the brutal nature of the attack have raised concerns among the local residents.

The police are now investigating into the case to understand the motive behind the attack and whether there were any underlying disputes between the two. Authorities are also examining Shahid’s past criminal record to determine if his involvement in other illegal activities could have influenced this violent act.
