Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): District and Sessions Court, Bhopal on Thursday has convicted a woman by awarding life imprisonment for killing her one-month old girl. ADJ Atul Saxena passed the order.

Sarita Mewada has been found guilty in case of 302 of the IPC. The court, in its observation quoted Rabindra Nath Tagore stating when a female child is born it shows that God is not unhappy with man. God gives itself a shape through girl child.

According to special public prosecution Sudha Vijay Singh Bhadoria, Sarita on September 16, 2020 informed the family member that Kinjal (1-month old baby) who was on bed, went missing at 11:00 am. At that time, there was no one in the family except Sarita. Police were informed. Family members had gone to agriculture field for harvesting crops.

All rushed home to find baby Kinjal. Kinjal, daughter of Sachin Kumar, a resident of Khajuri went missing and a complaint was lodged in the police station. Later, the body was recovered from the water tank in the house. Sachin told the police, ‘When I asked Sarita she broke down and admitted that she killed Kinjal.

Sarita had a baby girl and she would remain depressed. The birth of a daughter, upset her so much that she decided to kill her. The child was drowned in the water tank in the premises of the house. Sarita put the baby in the tank and put the lid on it.’

Special public prosecutor Sudha Bhadoria said, ‘The court has given decision on the basis of circumstantial evidence as Kinjal and Sarita was last time in the house.’
