Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Junked and damaged vehicles parked on roadside and pavements are not only slowing down vehicular movement but are one of the factors behind traffic congestion in old city areas.

Many such vehicles parked for years are occupying ample space.

Moreover, these rusting old vehicles which include old cars, autos, Tata Magic, jeeps, loading autos and even tractor-trolley are also posing threat to the safety of commuters.

To note, Nagar Nigam has removed around 200 such vehicles from MP Nagar, Shyamla Hills and other main routes ahead of the Global Investors Summit (GIS).

However, such vehicles are still affecting routine traffic in old city areas. A large number of vehicles could be seen parked on roadside from Budhwara Crossing to Kali Mandir and towards Itwara.

Vehicles include many junked and damaged ones which locals claim were lying there for many years. Old vehicles covered with dust can also be seen parked on LBS Road and many other roads in Shahjehanabad area. Moreover, old and damaged cars are also parked adjacent to Taj Mahal.

Many old vehicles have been parked on the road from Shajehanabad to Royal Market by some motor mechanics.

Besides, many old and damaged vehicles are also parked in the lanes and densely populated areas of the old city and are disturbing traffic movement.

Registration of majority of these vehicles has expired many years back. Many of the vehicles have been abandoned by their owners on roadside after they got damaged in accident.

Additional DCP (North) Basant Kumar Kaul said traffic police will soon identify such vehicles and will seize them in a drive with Nagar Nigam. The vehicles will be deposited at the parking near Dussehra Maidan, he added.
