The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon on M.M. Chotani Road, opposite Canossa High School, Mahim West. According to civic officials, the underground gas pipeline was damaged, and the fire was confined to the electric cable and MGL gas pipeline during road repair work.
A team from MGL, the civic ward, and fire officials swiftly responded to the site and disconnected the supply. "Although the fire was extinguished quickly, the JCB machine parked at the site caught fire," said a local resident.
In a similar incident on Tuesday, MGL pipeline was damaged during road excavation for concretisation work on Pro Almeda Road, which disrupted gas supply in the Khar and Bandra areas.
