Mira Bhayandar: Personnel from the crime branch unit (Zone III) attached to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police have arrested a 28-year-old youth for his alleged involvement in murdering his 25-year-old paramour who had come to meet him in Vasai from Uttar Pradesh. His modus of murder and later keeping her phone in a New-Delhi-bound train, bears striking similarity to the script of Bollywood blockbuster movie Drishyam.

About The Case

According to the police, they were informed by their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh about the 25-year-old woman who had gone missing from her house located in the Jharna Tola area of Gorakhpur District in December 2024. A missing persons report was registered at the AIIMS police station in Gorakhpur on 29, December.

On 25, February, the Gorakhpur police tipped off their MBVV counterparts about the presence of a suspect in Vasai. The crime branch unit led by police inspector Shahuraj Ranaware, started investigations and detained the suspect identified as Amit Sugreev Singh (28) within 24 hours of getting the information. After denying his involvement in the crime, Amit finally spilled the beans and admitted to his crime.

It emerged that Amit was in a relationship with the woman who had arrived in Vasai from Gorakhpur on 16, December. The woman was insisting Amit to marry her; however, his parents were strongly against their wedlock. Angered by the constant nagging to marry her, Amit accosted her to an isolated place in the Mahajanapada area of Poman village where he strangled her to death and dumped the body in a nearby nullah.

He then kept her phone in a switch-on mode in the Rajdhani Express to misguide the police by creating an impression that she had left for New Delhi after meeting him. Meanwhile an offence under section 103(1) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for murder and causing disappearance of evidence has been registered against Amit who has been remanded to police custody. Officials from the Naigaon police station are conducting further investigations.
