Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal is gearing up for a higher rank in the Swachh Survekshan 2024, boosted by the successful hosting of the Global Investor Summit (GIS) 2025. The city is witnessing a positive transformation, which is expected to reflect in its cleanliness ranking.
The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set an ambitious target to collect feedback from over 10 lakh citizens for the nationwide cleanliness survey under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Urban 2.0. The online survey, launched on February 19, will continue until the end of March, with the goal of encouraging maximum participation to boost Bhopal’s standing in the survey. Citizen feedback carries 500 marks from the total 12,500 marks cleanliness survey.
BMC chiefcredits GIS for cleanliness boost
Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) Chairman Kishan Suryavanshi spoke to Free Press about the transformative impact of the Global Investor Summit (GIS) on the city's infrastructure and cleanliness. "The successful hosting of the GIS has sparked significant improvements in Bhopal, and we are confident it will reflect in the Swachh Survekshan rankings," he said. Suryavanshi also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for selecting Bhopal as the summit venue, emphasizing the long-term benefits of such high-profile events for the city.
Mayor’s focus on citizen feedback
Mayor Malti Rai emphasised the critical role of citizen involvement in the success of the Swachh Survekshan survey. "Last year, over 5.4 lakh residents participated. With the survey points increasing from 7,500 to 12,500 this year, we aim to exceed 10 lakh responses," she told Free Press. She further added that the BMC would intensify efforts to encourage more participation, particularly after the conclusion of GIS 2025. Key questions The Swachh Survekshan 2024 citizen feedback survey comprises 10 multiple-choice questions aimed at gauging public satisfaction with the city's cleanliness efforts.
The questions are:
1. Does someone collect garbage from your house/shop daily?
2. How would you rate the cleanliness of your residential area regarding visible garbage and regular sweeping?
3. How often do you notice garbage dumps or heaps of waste around your area?
4. Do you separate dry and wet waste in your household?
5. Does the garbage collector load waste into the vehicle in separate categories, or is it all mixed together?
6. How effective do you think local authorities are in maintaining cleanliness in public places like markets, parks, and gardens?
7. Are you aware of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) centres for waste management in your city?
8. Do you know that urban local bodies (ULBs) are authorised to hire only licenced operators for cleaning sewers and septic tanks?
9. How satisfied are you with the cleanliness and maintenance of public toilets in your area?
10. Have you ever reported a cleanliness-related problem (e.g., garbage piling up, overflowing bins, lack of cleaning) to local authorities, and how was it resolved?
