Kolkata: Speculation started in West Bengal politics after the CBI in their third supplementary chargesheet over recruitment scam after referring to a recorded audio clip of 2017 named one ‘Abhishek Banerjee’ in it.
Though the central agency had never clarified the exact identity of Abhishek Banerjee, the name has resemblance with Trinamool Congress (TMC) national secretary and nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, against whom the opposition has always alleged to be involved in various scams.
Previously TMC Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee had also visited CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) offices several times after he was summoned by the central probing agencies.
In its chargesheet, CBI mentions that in 2017 at the Behala residence of Sujay Krishna Bhadra alias ‘Kalighater Kaku’ (uncle of Kalighat) a meeting was held where charge-sheeted accused Kuntal Ghosh, Shantanu Banerjee and two others, Aurobindo Roy Barman and Surajit Chanda, were also present.
The central probing agency even mentioned Aurobindo, staff of Kuntal Ghosh had recorded the audio of the entire meeting through his mobile phone which later he had transferred in his laptop and was recovered by CBI during investigation.
However, Sanjay Basu, lawyer of TMC MP said that the chargesheet of the CBI is “misleading and unsubstantiated. It was nothing more than a fishing expedition aimed at harassing my client.”
