Kolkata: Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Wednesday had showcaused an official from its education department for issuing a memorandum which said that there won’t be any holiday on Vishwakarma Puja in its Hindi medium school but there will be two days holiday for Eid ul Fitr from this year.
After opposition slammed KMC, it withdrew their memorandum cancelling holiday on Vishwakarma Puja and two days holidays for Eid and had published corrigendum.
In the corrigendum it was stated that ‘inadvertent typographical mistakes’ was there in the memorandum.
KMC Mayor Firhad Hakim said that such a thing is done just to spread communalism.
“Everyone knows that in every department of KMC Vishwakarma Puja is held. I myself visit every department. This is Bengal and everyone has the right to perform and take part in different pujas and also on Eid. The Commissioner and even MMIC of the education department was not aware of the notice,” said Hakim.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari once again stated that the present state government of Bengal plays ‘appeasement’ politics.
“I just don’t understand why this government is so angry against the Hindus? I keep saying that this government is Muslim League 2,” added Adhikari.
