Parag English School, Bhandup created history of sorts as they clinched their first-ever MSSA cricket title when they beat defending champions Shardashram Vidyamandir High School, Dadar by 30 runs in the MSSA Late Manoramaben Apte under-16 girls' final at the Sharad Pawar Indoor Cricket Academy, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai.
Chasing 131 for victory, Shardashram were restricted to 100/6 in 22 overs with their star batter Ira Jadhav scoring just 22.
Rajasi Nagose (1/33) and Arya Davane (2/34) starred with the ball for Parag as they defended their total without much of a trouble.
Parag's coach Manish Rao, a former Ranji Trophy player for Mumbai, was ecstatic with the team's historic performance.
"Beating the defending champions and winning by 30 runs is something that we really wished for. We visualized these things and we were already champions in our mind and it was all about executing it. Still, little tough on them but I think it is helping them and making them better cricketers," he added.
Rao felt fitness was one of the major reasons for his team's success and gave the example of Rajasi Nagose.
"The main thing has been our fitness. One of our bowlers bowled 10 overs on a trot. It's not seen in women's cricket regularly that a bowler does that. Rajasri Nagose is the bowler. That is how you are when you are fit. Every single ball you can give your 100 percent when you are fit.
The coach stated Parag went into the tournament with the self belief that they can win it and they executed their plans.
"We alwaya talked about championship. From the first session till today we talked about the championship. We are the champions, we want to be the champions and we will be the champions was the mantra. All this mainfestation has come together and we have performed really well," he revealed.
Rao stated batting the complete quota of overs was crucial for the team.
"The most important part is that we bowled 22 overs. The plan was that one of our batters Swara Jadhav will chip in and we will have partnerships. She takes the innings with her. She is someone who anchors the innings. The rest played around her. Still we could have got 20 runs more but we knew that we had a good bowling side and we can defend 131," Rao added.
The Parag coach explained that the title win was the best gift he could give back to the school for all the help they were providing with.
" We are very happy with that first title. It's always big. We practice for such days. School is helping with everything so this is the best gift what we can give back to them," he added.
Rao marked out Rajasi Nagose, Swara Jadhav and Arya Davane as Parag's players with tremendous potential to make it to Mumbai and India U-19 squads in the future.
"Rajasri Nagose, Swara Jadhav and Arya Dawne. For Mumbai and India and India U-19. They are in the under-15 category now. So they have great potential going forward," he added.
