There are several ancient temples of Lord Shiva across the country. One of them Satyeshwar Shiv – Parvati temple is at Bhavsinghpura in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Devotees pay obeisance in large numbers on the eve of Mahashiv Ratri to be celebrated on February 26. There are only three temples where Shiv and Parvati are residing together, and Satyeshwar temple is one of them. Devotees have immense faith in this temple and they come here on Shiv Ratri every year from various parts of the country.

It is excellent example of the ancient architecture. The temple is said to have constructed in 1,600 AD. The temple is constructed around 20 feet below the ground level in a Barav (Well). It is also said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has also visited this temple. A grand marriage of Shiv and Parvati is held in this temple on the occasion of Shiv Ratri. The devotees in thousands witness this unique occasion.

The temple is said to have been constructed by a Mughal Sardar named Bhavsingh and his name is given to the nearby area as Bhavsinghpura. The temples of Shiv and Parvati are constructed in the opposite direction. There are only three temples in the country in Ujjan, Trambakeshwar and Bhavsinghpura, where Shiv and Parvati are seen together. The temples are constructed in a Barav and the devotees have to climb down around 25 steps to pay obeisance to the deities.

Trustee of the temple, Keshavrao Lokhande said that Bhavsingh, Jaisingh and Pahadsingh were three brothers and were Sardars in the army of Nizam and they were stationed at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, which was earlier called Aurangabad. The marriage ceremony of Shiv and Parvati begins at 12 midnight, and before than both of them are decorated with jewellery and traditional attire.
