New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesdayaccused former Delhi chief minister Atishi of disrespecting Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. The BJP shared the image of Atishi keeping Dr Ambedkar's poster near her feet during a protest outside the Delhi Assembly.

“The reality of the AAP-Da gang which is anti-Dalit and always insults Baba Saheb. Atishi Marlena is busy looking at her phone with Baba Saheb's photo near her feet,” the Delhi unit of the saffron party said in its ‘X’ post.

BJP's Tweet:

The BJP shared the image a day after Atishi alleged that the newly elected BJP government had removed photos of Ambedkar from the Delhi CM’s office. On Monday, the Leader of Opposition (LoP), shared a photo of herself seated in the CM's office with portraits of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh in the background. She also shared a photo of the new Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, where portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, President Droupadi Murmu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were displayed instead.

However, the BJP hit back at the AAP releasing another picture of the Delhi CM’s office showing Dr Ambedkar’s photo in an adjoining wall.

Earlier on Tuesday, twelve AAP MLAs, including Atishi and Gopal Rai, were suspended from the Delhi Assembly amid uproar over the tabling of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta tabled the CAG report, highlighting the alleged financial irregularities under the previous AAP government, including the liquor excise police scam.

The Delhi government suffered cumulative losses of over Rs 2,000 crore due to the 2021-2022 excise policy for reasons ranging from weak policy framework to deficient implementation, according to a CAG report tabled in the assembly.

The report, one of 14 on the previous Aam Aadmi Party government's performance to be tabled by the new Rekha Gupta-led dispensation, has also flagged violations in the process of issuing licences. It has pointed out that recommendations of an expert panel, formed to suggest changes for the formation of the now scrapped policy, were ignored by then deputy chief minister and excise minister Manish Sisodia.
