Navi Mumbai: In the firing incident at a construction site in Airoli Sector-1, Rabale police have arrested two men identified as Amit Gaurishankar Upadhyay (38) and Sanjay Krishnanand Nayak (36).

The police are now searching for the Ravi Ghare who allegedly shot the round, and two brothers, Eklaq Rahim Shaikh and Mayum Shaikh, who were involved in the conspiracy. The investigation revealed that they had conspired to fire shots at construction site of businessman Sudhir Sharma to intimidate him and extort money from him.

Upadhyay used to supply construction materials to Sharma, who was engaged in building construction work in Airoli Sector-1. However, Sharma had neither paid Upadhyay for his work nor was he giving him further contracts, said police.

Additionally, Sharma had previously allegedly threatened Upadhyay over a payment dispute. Angered by this, Upadhyay planned to teach Sharma a lesson and extort money from him by intimidating him with gunfire. To execute this plan, Upadhyay roped in Ghare, who is associated with the Ravi Pujari gang, along with three other accomplices, said Rabale police.

As per the plan, on February 13, Ghare stole a motorcycle and used it to reach Sharma's construction site in Airoli Sector-1. There, he threatened the workers to stop work and then fired shots at a wall on the site before fleeing.

Following the incident, three police teams were formed to track down the accused. Assistant Police Inspectors Deepak Kharat, Avinash Palande, and Ganesh Dalvi, along with their team, examined around 150 CCTV footages from the crime scene and nearby areas to identify the suspects. Based on technical analysis, they laid a trap in the Rabale-Ghansoli area and apprehended Upadhyay and Nayak.

“Upon further interrogation, Upadhyay confessed to plotting the firing, and it was found that Nayak had helped hide the motorcycle used in the crime. Consequently, both were arrested. Meanwhile, we are still searching for the actual shooter, Ghare, and his accomplices, Eklaq Rahim Shaikh and Mayum Shaikh,” Senior Police Inspector Balkrishna Sawant.from Rabale police station said.
