Mumbai: A two-day-old body of a newborn baby was found in a riverbed in Palghar district, Maharashtra, on Saturday. Passersby and farmers alerted the police about the infant's body in the Udhwa-Nawapada Vanipada area on Thursday.
The officer confirmed that the body was male and sent it to the Talasari rural hospital for a post-mortem and a case was filed against unknown individuals as per reports by media agency PTI.
The ongoing investigation suggests that the body found in the river was just one or two days old. The official said the body might have been swept away by the river's current before getting lodged in the vegetation.
Authorities are working to identify the parents, with police teams visiting local hospitals, maternity homes, and communities to gather information. The cause of death is yet to be determined, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Second Incident Reported in Thane-Bhiwandi
On February 7, two newborn babies were found dead in Bhiwandi, Thane. According to the police, the parents abandoned the infants. A 32-week-old girl, was found by the roadside in a garbage heap in Bhiwandi.
The incident was discovered when passersby noticed the body in the garbage near Shivaji Chowk in the Panjarapool area of Bhiwandi. The police were alerted, and a team from Nizampura Police Station quickly responded. They found the deceased newborn girl and immediately took her to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Bhiwandi, where she was declared dead by a doctor.
