Indore (Madhya Pradesh): An act of kindness resulted in a woman being robbed of her valuables in broad daylight at her house under Vijay Nagar police station limits on Friday. The accused asked for water and sprayed sedatives on the victim while drinking water given to her.
The accused woman was caught on CCTV footage, hiding her face with a scarf while carrying a polybag. ACP (Vijay Nagar) Aditya Patle said that one Laxmi Pal, a resident of Solanki Nagar, lodged a complaint stating that an unidentified young woman came to her house at 2:40 pm and told her that she was tired while searching for a rented room and asked for water.
The complainant gave her water and the accused, while drinking the water took out a spray from her pocket and sprayed it on the face of the victim due to which she became unconscious. Then the accused applied some cream on her face and took away the jewellery worn by the victim including gold ear tops and a mangalsutra.
The police registered a case against the accused under sections 123 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence) and 307 (Theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to commit theft) of the BNS and are actively searching for the girl on the basis of CCTV footage.
Victim’s ordeal
The complainant Laxmi told Free Press that the young woman asked her if there was any rented room available in her house and asked her for water as she was tired as she had been searching for a room for a long time. When the victim gave her water, she took out a spray and sprinkled something on her face.
She wondered what was happening to her as she was slipping into a state of unconsciousness. The accused made her sit on a chair and applied cream on her face pretending that she was doing facial makeup.
The accused tried to give cheese to her children too to make them unconscious but they refused. The victim was able to hear the accused speak and could see that her jewellery was being snatched yet she could not resist the accused as she had slipped into a sub-conscious state of mind induced by the sedative sprinkled on her.
Accused came to her house earlier too
Laxmi told that the accused woman had come to her house a day prior to the incident also on the pretext of searching for a rented room but when she saw the victim’s husband, she did not come in. She waited outside her house for a long time but as her husband was there she did not enter the house. She came the next day when the victim’s husband had gone out of station for work.
Same incident occurred to another woman in vicinity
Laxmi further said that when she enquired about the accused woman, she came to know that a similar incident had taken place with another woman in the vicinity a day prior to her incident. A woman had snatched the victim’s mangalsutra after telling her that she was a makeup artist and persuaded her to get her makeup done. When the victim agreed, the suspect sprayed sedatives on her and took away her mangalsutra but the woman did not lodge any complaint with the police, she added.
