Bengaluru: Congress leader Hyder Ali was killed by unknown assailants near Garuda Mall in Ashoknagar, Bengaluru, around 1 am on February 23. The incident occurred while Ali was returning home on a bike with a friend after attending a live band event on Saturday night (February 22). The attackers, following them on another bike, ambushed Ali, assaulted him, and fled the scene.

Upon receiving information about the attack, the Ashoknagar police rushed to the spot and found Hyder Ali lying injured. They immediately took him to Bowring Hospital, but unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival, reported TV9 Kannada.

Outrage After Ali's Brutal Murder

The news of Ali’s death triggered unrest among his supporters, who gathered near the hospital wielding weapons like machetes and iron rods. They expressed their anger by vandalising the hospital gate, leading the Ashoknagar police to step in and bring the situation under control.

The police have registered a case at Ashoknagar Police Station and launched a search operation to track down the culprits. A special team has been formed to investigate the murder and apprehend the suspects.

Ali’s friend, who was with him at the time of the attack, also sustained injuries and has been admitted to the hospital. Hyder Ali, a resident of Anepalya, was known to be associated with Congress MLA N. A. Harris and had campaigned for him during elections.

Central Division DCP H. T. Shekhar, addressing the media, stated that the murder occurred around 1.30 am while Hyder Ali was on his way to Anepalya. He clarified that Ali was not a political leader but his elder brother was a social worker. The attackers reportedly blocked Ali’s way with a car before committing the murder.

Hyder Ali's Criminal Record

However, Hyder Ali had a controversial past. He was a known rowdy-sheeter in the Ashoknagar police jurisdiction, with 11 cases registered against him in various police stations. His criminal record included involvement in multiple offenses, including attempted murder.

Ali had been active in criminal activities since 2014, although there were no known offenses linked to him since 2022. Despite avoiding crimes recently, he continued to maintain his influence in the local area.

The Ashoknagar police are thoroughly investigating the case and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the attackers responsible for Hyder Ali’s murder.
