Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Commissioner Saurabh Rao has instructed civic officials to demolish all unauthorized structures in the TMC region, a TMC official said on Friday.
A civic official stated that Commissioner Rao held a meeting on Friday evening with Additional Municipal Commissioner Prashant Rode, Assistant Director of Urban Planning Sangram Kanade, Legal Officer Makarand Kale, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Manish Joshi, and other officials.
According to TMC officials, Commissioner Rao emphasized that unauthorized structures must be demolished completely and without delay. There are a total of 769 unauthorized constructions across TMC wards. Of these, 663 illegal structures have been recorded in the beat diary of beat officers.
The civic chief clarified during the meeting that all unauthorized structures, whether temporary or permanent, would be demolished without delay. He assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to the Assistant Municipal Commissioners for the demolition drive. "After the court order, we must adhere to the timeline and demolish unauthorized constructions within the TMC limits without delay," Rao stated.
According to the TMC, Assistant Municipal Commissioners must inspect unauthorized structures recorded in the beat diary of beat inspectors and be present during the demolition drive in their respective areas. "Action will be taken against municipal officers if they fail to comply with the demolition process," Commissioner Rao warned.
Meanwhile, around 6,500 residents in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) region are facing eviction before the demolition of their homes, following a High Court order to remove illegal buildings.
According to KDMC officials, 65 builders allegedly obtained MahaRERA certificates for their projects using forged documents. Thane’s Special Investigating Team (SIT) is currently probing the scam. The High Court had granted residents three months to take corrective measures, but the deadline expired on February 3, prompting KDMC to proceed with demolitions. Among the affected buildings, residents of Sai Galaxy had filed a petition before the High Court, but it was dismissed on February 13.
