In good news for commuters, all buses operated by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) will soon be equipped with CCTV cameras. The tender process for the installation has been completed, and the installation will be finished by the end of February, Nitin Narvekar, Joint Managing Director, PMPML, told The Free Press Journal.

Speaking to this newspaper, Narvekar added, "Currently, PMPML operates a fleet of 1,800 buses, including 900 under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model. While the GCC-model buses are already equipped with CCTV cameras, the remaining buses are not. The installation of CCTV cameras in the rest of the buses will be carried out in February. The initiative aims to enhance passenger security and curb incidents such as chain snatching and theft on buses. Additionally, it will help monitor the behaviour of bus conductors and drivers."

"Each bus will be fitted with three CCTV cameras, ensuring better surveillance and safety for commuters. Upon completion of this project, PMPML aims to provide a more secure travel experience for passengers across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad," Narvekar further said.

The Joint Managing Director also mentioned that the Apli PMPML mobile application has crossed over 10 lakh downloads on the Google Play Store. "PMPML is generating a revenue of approximately ₹1.62 crore per day. with ₹21-22 lakh coming from the app," he said.
