Former deputy chief minister of the state, Sachin Pilot, condemned the suspension. "Today, a minister of the state's BJP government made a comment on former Prime Minister Late Indira Gandhi, which was condemned and Congress MLAs including the Leader of Opposition @TikaRamJullyINC expressed their objection," Pilot said in his X post.

"Now in connection with this matter, 6 MLAs including the Congress State President @GovindDotasra have been suspended. It is clear from this that the BJP does not want the proceedings of the Assembly to continue and such baseless statements are being made continuously," he added.

The controversy erupted after Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Avinash Gehlot pointed to the members of Opposition and stated that like always, in the 2023-24 budget also, "you named the scheme after your dadi".

Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully strongly objected to Gehlot's statement.
