Kochi: The Centre Friday assured Kerala that the State will be part of the Modi government's India Growth Plan even as Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari announced the launch of ‘road infrastructure projects worth about ₹50,000 crore God’s Own Country’.
“We have 31 upcoming projects spanning 896 Km costing about ₹50,000 crore,” Gadkari said in his online address at the Invest Kerala Global Summit organised by the Left Front government at the sprawling Bolgatty International Convention Centre here.
Gadkari’s colleague Piyush Goyal, in his address, gave a detailed account of how Kerala, with the steady support of the Modi government at the Centre, has been making great strides across sectors including infrastructure, tourism, logistics, and exports.

“Kerala is part of the Modi Government’s growth plans,” he said even as he kept the hopes of the state on the high-speed Silverline railway project – a pet plan of State Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to connect Thiruvananthapuram to Kasargode in the northern tip of the State -- alive.
While the Chief Minister promised investors ease of doing business in the state and assured them that there will be no shortage of land as the government has a large land pool, Opposition leader V D Satheesan reminded the CM that the Congress had never launched a hartal against any industrial house in the last four years. “Hope this continues even if there is a change of government,” he said, hoping that the CPM will shed its agitational cloak.

In his address, Karan Adani said his group is planning to invest around Rs 30,000 crore in Kerala over the next five years, ranging from the ports sector to the expansion of Thiruvananthapuram airport.
The Adani Group has already invested Rs 5,000 crore in Vizhinjam Port and on Friday committed an additional investment of Rs 20,000 crore. “This is not only India’s first transshipment hub, but our vision is to make Vizhinjam the largest transshipment port in this part of the region. Further, we will be expanding Trivandrum International Airport from 4.5 million to 12 million passengers, with Rs 5,500 crore," said Karan Adani, managing director, Adani Ports and SEZ.
The company will also be setting up a logistics and e-commerce hub in Kochi and increasing its cement capacity in Kochi.
The Lulu Group committed itself to building two more IT parks in the state.
The summit was attended by top industrialists and others.
