The plots designated for warehouses in Turbhe Sector 19E are alleged by activists to have been illegally converted into hotels, bars, and lodges. The changes are stated to be  raising serious concerns about unauthorized commercial activities in the area.

“Turbhe Sector 19 was originally earmarked to facilitate warehouse activities, ensuring smooth operations for the APMC market. However, in recent years, landowners have repurposed these plots to construct hotels, bars, and lodges, allegedly for higher profits,” said the activist Sanket Doke

The complaint has provided the list of unauthorized establishments in the area. Total of 12 establishments' names have been provided for the authorities to look into. “ The list provided is just the tip of the iceberg, there will be many more such encroachments which authorities need to investigate and take action.,” said the activist.

The alleged illegal transformation is stated to have led to an increase in unauthorized commercial establishments

The activist filed a formal complaint dated February 20, 2025 with the  Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner, urging action under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act.  “This illegal transformation has led to an increase in unauthorized commercial establishments, prompting multiple crackdowns by the APMC police when illicit activities were detected on the premises,” said the activist.
