India kicked off their Champions Trophy campaign in style, securing a solid six-wicket win over Bangladesh. Shubman Gill starred with the bat, scoring his eighth ODI century and his first in an ICC tournament.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami made a remarkable comeback, grabbing a five-wicket haul and becoming the fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 ODI wickets, surpassing Ajit Agarkar.
After the match, the BCCI shared a video on social media featuring Shami and Gill reflecting on their performances and praising each other. At the start of the video, Shami jokingly says,
"Accha toh ab mujhe record karne lage ho ab." Gill then lauds Shami’s consistency in ICC tournaments, saying, "Pata nahi woh 4-5 wickets se neeche kabhi lete hi nahi, four-fer aur fifer hi lete hai, aur pata bhi nahi chalta ki 5 wickets kab ho gaye."

Shami, in turn, praised Gill for his composed innings, highlighting how he stayed at the crease and played according to the situation. "Jaisa woh crease pe tike raha aur as a batter jaise usko khelna chahiye waisa khela aur century banaya kabile tarif hai."
Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle also commended Gill’s innings, noting that it was his slowest fifty and slowest hundred but possibly his proudest. "This was your slowest 50 and slowest 100, but I think it was your proudest. Well done, keep this form."
Gill continued to praise Shami’s incredible comeback, calling him a "legend." Shami reflected on his journey post-injury, stating, "Ek hi difference hai ki injury se wapis aaya hu, baki toh kuch nazar nahi aaya. Uss time rhythm accha tha, abhi bhi karke aa raha hu 14 mahine ke baad, itni practice karne ke baad aur uska result bhi mila."
Speaking about his century, Gill shared that it felt special, especially after missing out on a few during the 2023 World Cup.
"This is my first century in an ICC tournament and feels special. I missed 2-3 chances during the 2023 World Cup, I got out in the 90s, and it is very satisfying that this century came during the chase."
Towards the end, Shami expressed his happiness about the team’s strong form, wishing that they continue performing well.
